    The Southern Route (Fastest & Recommended)

    • Distance: 371 kilometers
    • Driving Time: Approx. 7 hours and 30 minutes
    • Roads Used: Kampala-Masaka Highway, Mbarara-Masaka Road, and Mbarara-Kasese Road.
    • The Path: Leave Kampala via the southwest exit toward Mpigi. Drive straight through Masaka and Mbarara. From Mbarara city, branch off northwest toward Bushenyi, descend the Bunyaruguru crater lakes escarpment, and turn toward Katara village just before the Queen Elizabeth National Park main savanna stretch.

    The Northern Route (Scenic Tour)

    • Distance: 426 kilometers
    • Driving Time: Approx. 8 hours and 35 minutes
    • Roads Used: Kampala-Mityana-Fort Portal Road (A109) and Fort Portal-Kasese-Mbarara Road.
    • The Path: Head west out of Kampala through Mityana, Mubende, and Fort Portal. From Fort Portal city, drive south underneath the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, passing through Kasese town. Cross the equator at Kikorongo, drive through Queen Elizabeth National Park, cross the Kazinga Channel at Katunguru, and climb up toward Katara.
